Annual Sierra Festival of the Arts

Set in historic downtown Grass Valley, California, this annual street faire features fine art and crafts by California artists from a diverse cultural tradition. Free admission. Takes place the Sunday during Memorial Day Weekend, 10 AM - 5 PM. Check for further details.



Annual Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival

June 16-19, 2016

Considered one of the best festivals in the West with a spectacular lineup of national headliners, impressive California talent, workshops, camping, jamming and more, all under the pines in the scenic Nevada County Fairgrounds.

During Summer Nights, Nevada City’s landmark historic district is closed to motorized traffic and filled with arts, crafts, classic cars, food, drink and music. Leading Sierra foothills musicians perform on outdoor stages throughout the downtown area.



20th Annual California WorldFest 

July 14-17, 2016 

Featuring 8 stages of music and dance from around the world. The event is held each year at the Grass Valley Fairgrounds. Visit the for additional details and advance tickets.


Sierra Storytelling Festival: 

July 22-24, 2016

Scheduled for August 4-17, 2016 in Downieville, California. Cross Country Race, downhill race, live music, cold beer, swimming holes, bicycle expo, dirt demo, anarchy, trail shuttles, group rides and good times. Contests include:

  • River Jump World Championship
  • Pixie-cross World Championship

9th Annual Original Big City Rod Run & Car Show

 Slated for August 26-27, 2016, in Sierra City, the event is billed as”a celebration of Hot Rods and Lost Youth.” The Rod Run and Car show is produced by Highwaymen NorCal.

Miners’ Picnic at Empire Mine State Historic Park :
August 27, 2016, 11 am to 4 pm.

bournmansionempiremine.jpgThe 120th Annual  Miners’ Picnic continues thanks to the Empire Mine Park Association. The picnic was originally held annually and benefitted the widows and orphans of the miners. Now it is held for the benefit of all the park visitors. Activities include: Food & beverages available , games and entertainment for the children,; gold panning; cake walks; antique automobiles; equipment exhibits / demonstrations, silent auction and living history presentation–volunteers dressed in 1905 period costumes are at the cottage, in the mineyard and intermingling with the picnic’rs.

A good ol’ time in the streets of historic Downieville.  Come in period costume for a chance to win great prizes!  Vendors, gold panning, costumn contest, donkey races, BBQ dinner, street dance with live band, stage coach rides, gunfight reenactments, games, and much more!  Two day event, Saturday, September 3 from 8 a.m. to midnight and Sunday, September 4 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.



19th Annual Celtic Festival 

Friday, September 30; Saturday and Sunday,  October 1 & 2, 2016.

Celtic music and magic featuring world-class musicians, jams, dance, pageantry, living history, falconry, athletics, storytelling, and shopping.
Shopping and dining opportunities abound with over 70 vendors and a complete Irish Pub. Hundreds of regional performers, singers, bagpipers, actors, jugglers, and storytellers roam the fairgrounds. 6,000 attendees expected.




Mardi Gras in Nevada City:
A Mardi Gras Faire is festooned with a grande parade through historic downtown. A masquerade ball at the Miner Foundry, the night before, features fine food and live music.
