Miners Picnic at Empire Mine State Historic Park : August 24, 2013, 11 am to 4 pm. The long standing tradition of Miners Picnic continues thanks to the Empire Mine Park Association. The picnic was originally held annually and benefitted the widows and orphans of the miners. Now it is held for the benefit of all the park visitors. Activities include: Food & beverages available , games and entertainment for the children,; gold panning; cake walks; antique automobiles; equipment exhibits / demonstrations, silent auction and living history presentation–volunteers dressed in 1905 period costumes are at the cottage, in the mineyard and intermingling with the picnicrs.
